The joint family system has been a prominent social structure in many traditional societies, especially in South Asia. This research presents a detailed review of the joint family system from an Islamic perspective, analysing its foundations, benefits, challenges, and contemporary relevance. The study explores how Islamic teachings encourage strong family bonds, collective responsibility, and respect for elders, all of which align with the principles of a joint family setup. It examines Quranic verses, Hadiths, and scholarly interpretations to assess the extent to which this system corresponds with Islamic values. Moreover, the paper discusses social and economic advantages such as mutual support, child upbringing, and care for the elderly, alongside challenges like privacy issues and intergenerational conflicts. The research concludes by offering practical recommendations for adapting the joint family system in modern times while staying true to Islamic principles.
