Lullabies represent one of the oldest and most universally practiced forms of oral or folk literature. They are used to calm babies, build emotional relation between mother and her child, and pass culture from one generation to another. This paper studies lullabies as a distinct genre of folk poetry. It explains their main features, themes, structure, and social importance in different cultures around the world. It also places lullabies within the wider field of oral literature. The main focus of this study is the Sindhi lullaby, called Loli (لولي), which is a valuable but less studied part of Sindhi culture, language, and maternal tradition. The research classifies lullabies into different types, such as those related to nature, religion, future hopes, and storytelling. It also explains common features of lullabies, like simple rhythm, repetition, soft melody, use of loving words, direct speaking to the child, and symbolic images. Special attention is given to Sindhi lullabies, including their style, rhythm, repeated lines, and importance of musical tone, when they are sung. The study further explores the themes found in Sindhi Lullabies, these includes mother’s love, prayers for the child, connection with nature, wishes for a bright future, and reflections of women’s daily life and experiences. By examining examples from both old and modern traditions.
