Abstract

This work presents the role of women participation in the politics of Pakistan. The role of women parliamentarians in the politics of Pakistan has gained significant importance in recent decades, particularly after the introduction of reserved seats and democratic reforms. Women legislators have contributed to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting gender equality, and raising awareness about social issues such as education, health, domestic violence, and women’s rights. Despite operating in a male-dominated political environment, women parliamentarians have played an active role in policymaking, legislative debates, and advocacy for marginalized groups. Their participation has also challenged traditional socio-cultural barriers and encouraged greater political awareness among women across the country. However, challenges such as patriarchal norms, limited political autonomy, party control, and lack of equal opportunities continue to restrict their effectiveness in mainstream politics. This study examines the contributions, challenges, and impact of women parliamentarians in Pakistan’s political system and evaluates how their representation influences democratic governance and social development. The study highlights that increasing meaningful participation of women in parliament is essential for inclusive democracy, sustainable development, and political stability in Pakistan.
